I had my wisdom teeth pulled last Thursday. After surviving a week beforehand hearing every nightmare scenario everyone else had about the procedure, mine went exceptionally well. The only pain I had was when the pain medication wore off on Friday, and as of Monday morning, everything is back to normal aside from still only eating soft foods (which I’ll do until this Friday, just to be safe).
During this time I’ve not been working on my writing, for obvious reasons. I’ll restart the habit of writing again before work next week.
No Man’s Sky released a major update, and as usual sucked me back in. Such an absolutely beautiful game that ticks all the right boxes for me. I’ll be uploading some screenshots later this week.
NFL preseason is in full swing, and I intend to be totally into the NFL this year. I’ve decided to go all in on the Browns, with a little bit of love for the Chiefs, and of course the yearly utterance of screw Stan Kroenke for moving the Rams out of St. Louis.
Random Historical Fact
The oldest military unit still actively participating in combat is the French 1st Infantry Regiment, founded in 1479 by Louis XI. They also have the distinction of being the only French regiment to feature a squadron dedicated to urban warfare. They’ve been through a lot in their lengthy history, earning battle honors in the French Revolution, major Napoleonic battles including Waterloo, and participated in the Somme, Verdun, and Valmy in WWI. They were technically disbanded during Vichy France, but the commander hid the colors, and the regiment was active in the Resistance to the point they are the only French regiment with the secret army of the Resistance honors.
The oldest continuously active military unit (though now does not serve in a combat role) is the King’s Own Immemorial 1st Infantry Regiment, out of Spain. It was founded in 1248 by King Ferdinand III of Castille. It was one of the first standing units of Europe since the fall of the Roman Empire. Currently, they are responsible for providing security, services, and support for the Spanish Army Headquarters.
